Myth-conceptions, misinformation, disinformation plague our ability to hold serious discussions about the many threats to the environment, our natural world, our home. The end result is silence and inaction. Communicate 2014, November 4th & 5th in Bristol, is a forum for all environmental professionals to explore, discuss and share the most impactful ways to communicate their stories, run their campaigns and reach the biggest audiences.
Opening the conference is George Marshall, founder of the Climate Outreach Information Network and author of “Don’t Even Think About It: Why Our Brains are Wired to Ignore Climate Change”. He’ll be discussing the psychological barriers and the in-built assumptions that seem to stop people acknowledging climate change as the massive threat is it is. Communicate 2014 will explore the latest research into the theory and practice of behaviour change. If we’re hard-wired to ignore Big Things like climate change, how do we change the wiring?
